Matt is a Director in the Construction/Surety, Real Estate and Litigation sections of Coats Rose. He joined the firm’s Dallas office in 2010.
In addition to obtaining many verdicts, judgments, and arbitration awards on behalf of his clients, as a crowning achievement Matt served as co-counsel with lead counsel Randy McClanahan in obtaining a $42 million jury verdict in Serv-Tech, Inc. v. Stewart and Stevenson Services. He was named a Top Attorney in 2006, 2008 and 2009 in Construction Law by Fort Worth, Texas Magazine. Matt has given numerous speeches and written many articles and newsletters on construction-related issues.
In his spare time, Matt enjoys playing golf, YMCA camping trips with Georgeanne and Ashley (his daughters), traveling to Colorado with Liz (his wife), and still trying to play softball.
Matt concentrates his practice in residential and commercial construction matters from negotiating and drafting contracts, risk management, filing and removing mechanic's liens to handling the ultimate resolution of disputes in arbitration or trials. He has litigated over 25 disputes to final arbitration award or judgment on behalf of general contractors, homebuilders, subcontractors, suppliers, and owners.
As a unique niche, he also serves as general counsel in Texas for an international church organization in its real estate matters including litigation over church properties. As a final area of concentration he has a general real estate and commercial litigation practice, which includes covenants not to compete, and oil and gas field services.
