Director Rick Reed Among First Lawyers to Receive Certification in Construction Law from the Texas Board of Legal Specialization

HOUSTON – Jan. 17, 2017 – Coats Rose, P.C., a leading business transaction and litigation law firm, is proud to announce that director Richard L. (Rick) Reed received board-certification in the area of construction law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization (TBLS).

“This program is important for the public and for attorneys in our state,” said David Dickson, chairman of the TBLS Board of Directors. “We’re focused on enhancing the quality of legal representation in an increasingly competitive marketplace. I’ve been involved with this program for more than 30 years and I am continually impressed with TBLS members’ accomplishments.”

Board certification is a voluntary designation program certifying Texas attorneys in 22 specific areas of law. In fact, less than eight percent of all attorneys licensed to practice in the State of Texas are Board Certified. Board-certified attorneys must be licensed for at least five years, devote a required percentage of practice to a specialty area for at least three years, attend continuing education seminars, pass an evaluation by fellow lawyers and judges, and pass a six-hour written examination. This was the first year the Construction Law Board Certification exam was offered and Coats Rose was among the very first group of attorneys to take the exam.
