Coats Rose attorneys continued their successful track record in passing legislation on behalf of Texas real estate developers during the 85th Texas Legislative Session. Our attorneys’ work resulted in the passage of 16 local bills as well as a general law bill clarified certain Texas Water Code provisions. The passed legislation will create special purpose districts, add road powers to existing districts, or alter the powers and duties of certain special districts located in Ft. Bend, Harris, Montgomery, Denton, Hood, Wise, Liberty, and Harris counties. The passage of these bills will greatly enhance the value of our clients’ land and their proposed development efforts.
“I am very proud of our work this legislative session,” said Natalie Scott, Director with Coats Rose Government Relations practice. “It has become increasingly hard to pass special district bills, but the members and committees that sponsored and heard our legislation understood the economic value of our efforts and worked hard to pass our bills and deliver them to the Governor.”
Coats Rose Government Relations attorneys protect our client’s business interests and promote their concerns before legislative and regulatory decision makers. Our attorneys address complex legal and public policy issues faced by our clients in the real estate and construction industries, as well as general civil litigation matters. This past session, our attorneys worked with members of both the Texas House and Senate within the House Special Purpose Districts Committee, the House Local Calendars Committee and the Senate Intergovernmental Relations Committee. Our attorneys also look forward to working on interim studies that will be undertaken by House and Senate committees.
Creating special districts is a focus of our practice; however, our attorneys also provide lobby representation in the areas of real estate development, affordable housing, construction, juris prudence, transportation, healthcare, and many other matters relating to economic development.
