NEW ORLEANS – February 26, 2019 – Coats Rose is pleased to announce that Kelly Longwell and Elizabeth Haecker Ryan have been selected to the 2019 Leadership in Law class by the New Orleans CityBusiness newspaper. Leadership in Law recognizes 50 area legal professionals for their professional and community involvement and achievements that have set the pace for the overall community.
- Longwell is a Director in the New Orleans office of Coats Rose, where she concentrates in the areas of real estate, affordable housing and taxation. She represents developers and investors in a wide variety of projects including hotels, apartment complexes, office buildings, residential condominiums and retail commercial space. Longwell has extensive experience representing and advising private developers and investors as to federal tax incentives, including New Markets tax credits, low-income housing tax credits, opportunity zones, facade donations, historic rehabilitation tax credits and real estate syndications. She has structured various real estate transactions with an emphasis on maximizing the tax benefits for clients, including Section 1031 tax-free exchanges of property, sale/leaseback transactions, tax increment financing and equity syndications.
- Ryan is a Director in the New Orleans office, where she practices general civil litigation, with a concentration in construction, environmental, insurance defense and coverage, employment, admiralty, pharmaceutical and medical device law. For over 30 years, Ryan has litigated matters involving toxic tort, class action, maritime personal injury and property damages, personal property damage arising out of fire, products liability, pharmaceuticals, interstate transportation of hazardous substances and the sale of same by maritime transporters; and truck and auto litigation. She serves as a mediator and an umpire in insurance appraisal matters and is an arbitrator for the American Arbitration Association.
An event to celebrate the 2019 honorees will be held on May 13 at the New Orleans Museum of Art, and a special Leadership in Law insert profiling all honorees will be included in the May 24 issue of the New Orleans CityBusiness.
