AUSTIN – June 17, 2019 – Coats Rose attorneys continued their successful track record in passing legislation on behalf of Texas real estate owners/developers during the 86th Texas Legislative Session. Our attorneys’ work resulted in the passing of 21 “local bills,” creating 21 new conservation and reclamations districts, encompassing approximately 10,000 acres in the greater Dallas, Fort Worth, Houston and El Paso metropolitan areas.
Coats Rose attorneys were instrumental in the passing of a total of 25 local bills. The passed legislation will create special purpose districts, add road powers to existing districts, or otherwise enhance the powers of existing districts. The passing of these bills will greatly enhance the value of the land located within the special districts and enhance the development plans of the owner/developers. Coats Rose attorneys also assisted in passing amendments to general law provisions applicable to special districts.
“We had a great legislative session,” said Natalie Scott, Director and head of the Coats Rose Government Relations Team. “We didn’t know what to expect given new leadership and Committee assignments in the House, but everything went smoothly. I’m very proud of our accomplishments and the number of bills we were able to get across the finish line. We were fortunate to work with great members and staff that made our job easier.”
Coats Rose Directors Natalie Scott, Tim Green, and Mindy Koehne, and Associates Laken Jenkins Kilgore and Mallory Craig comprise the Coats Rose Government Relations Team. Together, they work to promote their clients’ interests before legislative and regulatory decision makers. Our attorneys address the complex legal and public policy issues faced by our clients in the real estate and affordable housing industries.
Creating special districts is a focus of our public finance and government relations team; however, our attorneys also provide lobby representation in the areas of real estate development, affordable housing, construction, juris prudence, transportation, healthcare, and many other matters relating to economic development and business interests.
