HOUSTON – August 27, 2021 – Coats Rose is pleased to announce that partner Shannon Davis Hunter has been named one of Houston Business Journal‘s 2021 Women Who Mean Business. The awards honor outstanding professional women who serve in leadership roles, who have demonstrated excellence in their careers and community, and who have made significant contributions to their businesses and/or industries, as well as in their communities. Hunter is one of only four individuals recognized in the “Outstanding Business Leaders in Law” category this year. In total, 78 women were honored this year across 11 industry categories.
Hunter is a Partner in the Firm’s Affordable Housing and Community Development practice in Houston, where she represents public housing authorities, housing developers (both for- and non-profit), syndicators, and investors with leveraging various products, including HOPE VI funds, low-income housing tax credits, private activity tax-exempt bonds, investment syndications and conventional loans, to finance their projects.
In addition to her work as an attorney, Hunter, a native Houstonian, makes time in her schedule for locally-focused community service, to ensure that she gives back in meaningful ways.
“My civic and social engagement is driven by underlying goals to nurture and develop leadership, technology and STEM knowledge within children,” said Hunter. “I believe this is a complement to what I focus on for affordable housing, because access to these skills will position children for strong futures in their working years.”
Hunter currently volunteers in leadership on a number of community organizations, including:
- The Housing Corporation of Greater Houston, Member, Board of Directors
- Jack and Jill of America – Houston Chapter
- The Links, Incorporated – Texas Spring-Cypress Chapter, Chair, Legislative Issues and Public Affairs Committee
- Seminary of the Southwest – Austin, Texas, Board of Trustee
Hunter and all 2021 Women Who Mean Business honorees will be recognized at a special event on October 21, 2022 and in a special section of the Houston Business Journal’s October 22, 2021 weekly edition.
